A Day at YouthBuild

What to Expect

7:00 AM – 7:45 AM

Travel to the YouthBuild Facility

Those requiring transportation will be picked up at their home or a pre-determined location.

8:00 AM – 8:30 AM

Morning Meeting

  • The group gathers for a quick touch-base.
  • The program staff discusses the day’s schedule and shares important announcements and inspirational stories from participants or staff.
  • Everyone gets motivated for the day ahead with a focus on goals, community, and teamwork.

8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

GED Preparation or Career Skills Training

  • Some students attend academic classes to work on their high school diploma equivalency, where they focus on subjects like math, English, science, and social studies.
  • Participants engage in hands-on work in the program’s workshop. Or they may be out in the field working on actual construction projects.
  • Those in other career-focused tracks might participate in workshops on job readiness, résumé building, interview skills, or exploring different career pathways.

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM

Lunch Break

Participants are to bring their own lunches, giving them time to eat and relax on-site. During lunch, there are opportunities to interact with peers and staff, fostering a supportive community atmosphere.

12:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Service Learning or Community Projects

  • YouthBuild is heavily involved in service learning. Participants might engage in community service activities like landscaping, or other service projects, such as working at a local food bank.
  • Participants gain valuable work experience while giving back to their community and building leadership skills.

2:30 PM- 3:00 PM

Reflection and Goal Setting

  • The day ends with a group circle where everyone reflects on what they accomplished during the day.
  • Participants set personal goals for the next day or week and share any challenges or successes they experienced.
  • Staff members offer encouragement and guidance on overcoming any obstacles.

3:00 PM

Dismissal

YouthBuild members prepare to leave for the day. Before departing, they are reminded of any upcoming events, important deadlines, or resources they can access. Those requiring transportation are returned to their home or the drop-off location.
