Construction and Manufacturing Training for Those in Recovery or Post-Incarceration

Program Overview

The Cultivating Recovery Employment and Training Education (CREATE) program provides training for individuals who had substance use issues or those returning to work after incarceration. Participants can choose from training programs in wood product manufacturing or construction, growing fields offering career opportunities in our region.

Course Duration

  • 5 weeks for either program

Course Format

  • In-person, hands-on training at the WV Wood Technology Center.

Key Skills & Certifications

  • CPR/First-Aid Certification: Life-saving skills needed in the workplace.
  • OSHA-10 Certification: Ensures safety standards are met on job sites.
  • Forklift Operation Certification: Training for heavy machinery safely.
  • CNC Machinery Certification: Learn how to operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, a key skill in modern manufacturing.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Drug screening is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Participants should be in recovery or returning to work after incarceration.

Financial Aid & Support

  • Hourly financial stipend available during training.
  • Free training supported by grants.
  • Transportation support may be available (ask the job coach about free round-trip transportation from the job coach).

Learning Center and Workforce Program Partners

These workforce training programs are supported by various grants and partners who provide funding and resources:

  • ARC Inspire: This program is 80% funded through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).  The total funding from ARC is $446,980.  20%/$111,803 is funded by other non-federal organizations.
  • HRSA Rural Health Grant: 100% funded by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. The total federal funding for this program is $1,544,883
  • DOL-ETA Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC 4):  This program is 100% funded with federal money.  The total federal funding amount is $1,440,438.
