Build Your Skills

Helping You Become a Homeowner

Program Overview

At RCHA, we understand that home ownership can seem out of reach, especially if you face challenges like low income or bad credit. But we’re here to tell you—it’s possible, and we can help you get there. Whether you’re just starting out or already on your way, we have the tools, programs, and partnerships to support you in becoming a homeowner.

How We Help You Afford a Home

Money Management and Budgeting Classes

Starting with your financial health is key. We offer Money Management and Budgeting Classes to help you take control of your finances. These classes teach you how to save for a down payment, budget effectively, and improve your credit score. No matter where you are financially, we’ll help you build a stronger foundation.

Credit Counseling

Your credit score doesn’t have to hold you back. If your credit is less than perfect, our HomeOwnership Center (HOC) can help you understand your credit report and give you the guidance you need to improve your score. Through credit counseling, you can learn how to manage and repair your credit, making homeownership more attainable.

Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)

If you are already receiving Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher assistance, the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is an excellent resource to help you work toward homeownership. By setting financial goals and improving your job skills, you can increase your income and build up savings for a down payment. Plus, any rent you pay above your usual amount is saved into an escrow account, which you can use when it’s time to buy your home.

Affordable Loans and Financial Support

When you’re ready to take the next step toward purchasing a home, we partner with our HomeOwnership Center (HOC) to help you access affordable loans. Even if you’ve been turned down by other lenders, they specialize in providing loans with favorable terms for families in North Central West Virginia. Through this partnership, you can find the best financial resources to help make homeownership a reality.

Homebuyer Education

The HomeOwnership Center offers Homebuyer Education Classes where you can learn everything you need to know about buying a home—from understanding mortgages to navigating the closing process. We’ll guide you through every part of the journey, giving you the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions.
